The ideas that stick around start with a scenario that has to be written down and shared. What happens next is the true creation of a character. The excitement of completing a story is for the character more than me. What happens next? How will that turn out? I can't help but imagine.
What do your fans mean to you?
Without fans you have a hobby. The idea of creating a story and believing in it, seeing it through, and having to put it all away to scrape out a living at something that doesn't make you happy is...crazy. Believing in yourself is the first part, but fans can make your dreams come true.
What are you working on next?
Red Saints is my primary body right now; but I have a few other stories coming very soon - including a werewolf story, a warlock story, and a comedy about Halloween in a small town.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm still in process of making my writing my career, so I work, gig in a band, and spend time with family. I like to travel, work on home projects, get out into nature, and woodwork also.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was called "The Cat's Bad Day" and I was barely old enough to spell when I wrote and illustrated it. It was about our cat and his daily efforts to escape us kids, find excitement in the neighborhood, and get a little piece and quiet. There's no surviving copy, but my dad called it a masterpiece lol.
What is your writing process?
It begins with a scenario that demands to be written down. Then the story builds around that in both directions. Editing happens at all levels.
What do you read for pleasure?
Lots of online articles on Twitter - favorite topics include NASA, nature, and science/technology. I also follow NHL and UFC news.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My iPhone. Originally I went to iPhones when Droids started to get bigger and bulkier. Now it's just what I know.
Describe your desk
In the middle between clean and messy. I truly enjoy clear spaces but space and budget make my writing space double as my recording space. I have a laptop with Final Draft which is my go-to software for writing. I use the Celtix app on my phone but may purchase the final draft app at some point for easier sharing between devices. I'm getting to be able to do everything on my phone.
