Interview with Cynthia Bailey-Rug

What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy the classics, "Dracula" in particular, as well as "Frankenstein" and even Shakespeare. I also love Victoria Holt and older Stephen King books in the fiction genre. As far as non-fiction, I love T.D. Jakes, Joyce Meyer and Jesse Duplantis.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have an android tablet with the kindle app that I love. I only wish it allowed me to organize my ebooks better.
When did you first start writing?
I always enjoyed creative writing exercises in school. When I was in the eighth grade, my junior high school had a poetry contest. I entered it on a whim. I won first place! I dabbled in poetry after that for years, then wrote my first book, "Baptism Of Joy" in 2002.
What's the story behind "You Are Not Alone!"?
I was looking over the stats from my website one day last year, and realized the pages about problem mother/daughter relationships got the most attention. My husband suggested I write a book about the topic. Over dinner that night, we discussed possible topics. I wrote down notes, and before I knew it, I had written a book.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I knew I wanted to be an author, but had no idea how to go about it. In my research, I realized that authors using traditional publishers have deadlines and quotas. I knew that was something I couldn't do since I don't handle stress very well. Being an independent author means I am free to write what God wants me to, when and how He wants me to write it, rather than following orders from a publisher.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When someone reads something I've written then tells me how much it helped them or inspired them. That makes what I do worth the effort.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world to me. Without them, I have no reason to write. They keep me inspired and grateful.
What are you working on next?
A fictional book- a psychological thriller. It takes place in the Victorian era in Annapolis, Maryland. A young widow remarries. The man is only interested in her money, and tries to drive her insane to get rid of her and have access to it. He is having an affair with a young housemaid, and enlists her help in his plan. The wife learns of the husband's plans, and turns the tables on him.
Who are your favorite authors?
Joyce Meyer, Jesse Duplantis, Bishop T.D. Jakes, Stephen King, Victoria Holt, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe, William Shakespeare
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My furbabies. I love my pets- they are more like my children than pets, really. They are such a blessing to me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to knit and crochet, animals, read, classic cars, NASCAR, drag racing, demolition derbies and antiques.
What is your favorite book, and why?
The Bible has to be my favorite book. It seems like every answer I need is in there!
