I anticipate Smashwords will contribute to my success as a new author by allowing my novel "Final Drive" to achieve global exposure. The subject of my book is romance with domestic violence as an element of the story. I have an MA degree in counseling with an emphasis in women's issues. Although this novel is fiction, domestic violence is a very serious problem it not only impacts the victim but little children growing up in that type of home atmosphere. Children learning to cope with anger issues in the same way often grow up to be abusers. Domestic violence is a global problem and hopefully my book will have a global audience. I believe with knowledge and awareness growth and change are possible..
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is the creative process. For me writing is an art form and a way to convey thoughts, feelings , and beliefs.
What do your fans mean to you?
This is my debut novel and I would be humbled to have people who liked my novels. Writing for me is not about fame but more of a belief that I have something to contribute in this world. As a blind person I have climbed many mountains in my life. I really don't want to imagine the writing process to develop fans but more to write something that will touch others lives in a positive way. Aren't we all companions on this journey called life?
What are you working on next?
My next novel is Sand Bar girls the story of a madam named Billie at the turn of the 20th century. The novel will be historical and it will be an uplifting story of how one woman in times when women had few opportunities rose above her situation and touched the lives of others in the process. It will probably be a romance novel.
Who are your favorite authors?
Nicholas Sparks, Mollie Hardwick, Jane Austen, and Edgar Allan Poe
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My husband John and my two Maltese dogs Desy and Freddie.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote was a humorous story of Samantha a self centered woman who was reincarnated as a Maltese dog in error. Her personal guide was a hippy from the sixties. He compared his angelic position of being a guide similar to being a used car salesman as he was when he lived. He liked to think of himself as a negotiater on a swat team when a soul was placed in a new body. You just never knew how the soul would react once it was transmitted.
What is your writing process?
I established daily goals and kept a spiral index card to track my progress. My screen reader was a huge help in that I could hear my novel being read back to me.
How do you approach cover design?
I tried to educate myself on all the various aspects of self publishing. Ultimately I hired someone to design my book cover.
What do you read for pleasure?
Romance novels and books on naturopathic medicine
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle text to speech
