Interview with Dani Swanson

When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was 13. We didn't have a Word program, so everything was done on Note Pad. Everything that I wrote was saved on a floppy disk (not to date myself), and I was big into Heracles stores and basically anything that was Mythology. I was really big into a story I was writing about a princess who met Heracles. My typing skills were horrible so it took me FOREVER to write it....all 26 pages of it. Then, one day I went down to our basement to work on my creation, only to find that my little brother had broke my floppy disk. The level of anger I reached that day beats all emotions one can feel. (Sorry Matt, I know you were only 9 at the time....but I'm still mad ;) )
What's the story behind your latest book?
I had a major concussion and started to have these crazy dreams that I felt needed to be written! I had very little short term memory, and was struggling to remember my day to day activities. This was the start for the main character of The Hunt of the Grimalkin.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had always written short stories, poems and other things, but never thought that I could be good enough that someone would want to read them. My friend from college is a published author and was my inspiration for giving it a try.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy has been seeing people enjoy my story. I was terrified to put my book out there, but to have people contact me, asking when the next installment will be done, is truly amazing to me.
What do your fans mean to you?
EVERYTHING! I love to hear from them, talking about our fur babies, what they liked (or hate) in my story or to what they are doing for the weekend.
Who are your favorite authors?
J.K. Rowling and Chanda Hahn
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I currently work full time as a public service employee. I help people get the support that they need - food, housing ect. I try to make the world a better place, however I can. These moments inspire me to get out of bed.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to paint, or do anything else that is artistic - fixing up old furniture, mosaic tiling, or many things my friends find on Pinterest that they want for their houses. I go bowling, hang out with my family, and binge watch Netflix with my fur babies.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
This was a poem I wrote for my freshmen writing class in High School. Before that I wrote a 26 page story of Heracles and a princess....that was lost due to my little brother breaking my disk.

Softly Sighing

Softly sighing while soundly sleeping.
In wonderment I watch.
Thinking of thoughts that go through your head.
Daydreaming delightfully of the day you,
really realize I'm right for you.
Your heart headed for her, to only be
shot straight back.
Patiently I wait to pursue passionate play.
Teasingly I kiss your temple.
You open your great, gorgeous, green eyes.
A soft sloppy kiss is returned.
Before we both fall softly sound asleep.
How do you approach cover design?
I actually painted the raven on the cover! I do a lot of painting, and have a painting business called Elle Swan Design.
