Interview with Daniel Veri

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The ability to play God in a world that unfolds inside the mind. When developing characters, I only offer them raw basic elements and then throw them into various situations and enjoy watching them seemingly take on a life of their own as they grow to overcome obstacles, relish in their triumphs and then feel for them in sadness.
What are you working on next?
A western/action screen play.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend the remaining free time i have gardening which can be frustrating in the incredibly hot summers Adelaide has, fishing and on the Playstation.
What do you read for pleasure?
everything and anything. I feel if you narrow your reading down to only the books in the genre that you absolutely love you will never grow as a writer.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My mobile phone (cell phone). I can read whenever I get a chance cause it is always with me.
Describe your desk
My first draft is written sitting up in bed in the quiet hours of the night. The second draft is punched into the desktop tucked away in the corner of the lounge.
Who are your favorite authors?
Steven King, George R.R. Martin, John Stack and Mathew Reilly.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
A simple question to answer and that is My wife and two sons.
What are your ambitions?
For everyday to create something that did not exist the day before. Whether that being another line for my next book or screenplay or even just a fun joke.
What is your writing process?
Trying to learn as much as I can and then letting two ideas naturally click together. Those ideas then create new scenarios and characters. I then begin to write without knowing how it will end because I think the story will feel much more realistic if you let the characters determine their own fate.
