How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Wherever they may show up on social media, and some print magazines (PW, Writers...etc).
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I ride a bicycle 25 miles every day. I visit my kids and grandkids. I Facebook with my sibs.The rest of the time not writing is drinking coffee and staring out at the universe.
What is your writing process?
Imagine an opening sentence that is intriguing. From there the story and characters take over.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Ray, by Barry Hannah.
How do you approach cover design?
Character driven.
What do you read for pleasure?
Gritty crime novels. Any and all the Parker books by Richard Stark/Donald Westlake.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Not big on e-reading. I like the feel of a nice paperback in my hands.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have Facebook pages in foreign countries, UK, Ireland, Sweeden, Australia.
Describe your desk
My desk is crowded with stuff. I need or will need every single item at some time and I want it in arms reach. There are always two or three coffee cups from days ago, and books I swear I'm going to get to soon.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up a relatively poor Irish Catholic in the fifties when corporal punishment was routine, which brings out a great deal of contempt in my writing. I am a champion of the underdog.
