Interview with Dee Kyte

Published 2019-02-23.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favourite authors are Dorothy Koomson and Peter May, who are both British authors.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on the individual books in the My Dinosaur Alphabet series, so it will be Felicity the Fabrosaurus next. Once I have finished Z is for..., I will publish all the individual ebooks as one paperback.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing, I spend time as an Instructor of English as a second language. I also enjoy reading, walking, eating out, and spending time with my family.
How do you approach cover design?
The cover design is fairly easy. I have an idea of what the character will look like in my mind, then I draw it in a simplistic design, as if drawn by a child themselves.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I get a positive review from someone I don’t know. The fact they have read my work and taken the time to leave a review is really rewarding.
What do your fans mean to you?
If people like my work and buy more than one of my books or ebooks, it means that I am doing something right! Therefore, fans mean a lot to me, as they give me the push to keep going.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I am late to the writing game, so I can easily remember the first book I wrote. It was Willy the Billy Goat, and I only released it last year.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
That is a difficult one! I like different books for different reasons. The Girl on the Train, has to be up there, as does The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and the other two books in that series. I also love the China Series of books by Peter May, but I couldn’t pick out a particular one.

The main reason is that they are written well and keep the reader on the edge right up to the end.
Describe your desk
My desk is very neat and tidy. It faces away from the window, so I don’t get distracted by anything!
