Interview with Diamond Cartel

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, also known as Buckeye City! If you weren't a fan of The Ohio State University Buckeyes then something was wrong with you! Well, something must have been wrong with me because I'm not a fan! Not that they're bad...I'm just not into sports.

My writing is influenced by my experiences more than my environment. Columbus has been the backdrop to A LOT of my experiences and definitely influenced my early writings. As I become more "seasoned" in writing and explore different parts of the world my influences have grown and I have more value to add to my storylines, my characters, and the overall purpose of each book I write.
When did you first start writing?
This will sound so cliché, but I began writing when I was a child. In the third grade everyone in my class had to create a storybook. I wrote a story about a princess (naturally); drew the characters and everything. The drawings weren't all that great, but my teacher LOVED the story! I've been writing ever since.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book, not yet titled nor released, is an urban mystery dealing with the death of a young woman. When her friends try to find the killer they are led to clues that begin to point to each other. Suspicions begin to cloud their heads causing their unbreakable bond to shatter. As they inch closer to the killer they drift farther apart, unsure if they'll ever be friends again.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My true reason for wanting to become - and remain - an indie author is control. My stories are written in a way that I feel my readers will understand. They're not mainstream or commercialized; they can be really graphic at times. I want to be able to keep my creativity in tact, tell my stories the way they are given to me by my Higher Power, and deliver them to my readers in that same manner...without the aid or opinion of a "big business" publishing house.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has made being an indie author so much easier! I love how their system customized one file and formats it to meet the standards of almost any eReader. They have definitely helped me reach more readers with my eBooks.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing helps me to release. It helps me to become someone else and create an entire life outside of my own. It even saves me from going off the deep end! Writing has always been one of my major outlets and although it's not always understood by others, it makes perfect sense to me.
What do your fans mean to you?
They're not my fans...they're my family! Family means everything to me. Every good review, constructive criticism, word-of-mouth all plays a role in helping me become a better writer and I thank and love them for it.
What are you working on next?
Currently, I'm finishing up a novel, but I have 14 fictional story concepts pending. Needless to say I'm not short on material. I also plan to start writing more motivational books for my coaching clients and anyone else who could use some motivation in their life.
Who are your favorite authors?
I don't have a "favorite author." After going through the motions I respect anyone bold enough to tackle creating - and publishing - a book. It's no easy feat, but those who stuck through it and came out published in the end will always have my support.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Several things inspire me, but I believe they all revolve around one thing: LOVE! I'm Love-centered, and anything attached to someone or something I Love is inspiration enough to keep me going - even when I don't feel like it.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I'm dreaming! Yes, I'm a dreamer and proud of it! I'm also traveling, coaching, creating, living, laughing and loving! Then again, I do all of these things when I'm writing, too!
