There is a process to this? Wow, I should really google that. Usually I just get an idea while I am driving and then I spend days and weeks researching items about that idea. Eventually, I start to take notes and form rough outlines and then maybe if the mood strikes me, I begin to type.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't recall the first story I ever read but I do recall my grandfather reading to my sister and I at bedtime. He would read us Curious George books and I loved every minute of them. I think the first book I fell in love with on my own was "A Wrinkle In Time". I guess that's where my love of fantasy, sci-fi and mystery started.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My favorite books are the stories that take me so deep into them that years later I can't remember if they were a book, a movie I saw or a dream I had. They are just a part of me. I could never name just five, it wouldn't be fair.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I own a Nook, which I love, but I have been known to read on my laptop, desktop and phone. If it shows me what I want to read at the time I want to read it, then it's my e-reading device for that moment.
Describe your desk
Hmmmm, my desk, hmmmm. Well, my desk at my bill paying job is a typical office desk with the standard desk blotter, computer, box of tissues and fun shelf toys to keep me entertained. When I write, anything can become my "desk". It could be the kitchen table, this cute little lap desk my husband and children made for me, my bed or even the passenger seat of one of our vehicles. It depends on where I am when the mood to write strikes.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy for me, when it comes to writing, is finding out where my characters are taking me. I know the basics but I never know the story until they unfold it for me. It never fails, that when I try to take over and direct them they rise up and remind me who's story it really is.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Dunkin Donuts coffee.
