Interview with R. M. Smith

Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, George R. R. Martin, Clive Barker
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
To see my beautiful wife's face, to see her smile or hear her laugh. She saved my life.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Browsing through amazon or other ebook sellers.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes it was about a doomed spaceship. The title was 'Orbit 11001.' I wrote it when I was probably 14.
What is your writing process?
Start with an idea. Think of different characters who would be involved. Think of their background. Then go.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes it was Stephen King's 'The Stand.' It scared the crap out of me, especially the New York tunnel scene. I loved the way King wrote it - I envisioned the whole thing in my mind. I thought 'I'd love to be able to do that one day.' and I think I started writing shortly after, or while, I was still reading the book.
How do you approach cover design?
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Stand by King, the Dead Zone by King, The Shining by King, The General's Daughter by DeMille, and The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien - why? because they are great books that grab and hold the attention of the reader with great characters, great plots, and great endings.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
A Samsung tablet
What's the story behind your latest book?
I wanted to write a zombie story but not about zombies, but something as bad as them and as deadly as them, about the survivors who have to strive to stay alive even though things around them are not worth living for.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Create Space on Amazon
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating people and seeing it happen as I write it
