Interview with Cyndie Lepori

Describe your desk
On the couch with a blanket, the chihauhaus snuggled into my lap, my keyboard in my lap and soft music playing. The door is open and the pond is right outside with beautful ducks swimming in circles in the sunshine.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Arkansas with the crystles and in Atlanta. My childhood was horrific. My Dad abused us all and it was a dangerous place in our home. I read and walked in nature to stay away from home as much as possible. I commited back then that I would teach other people how to create safety and love for themselves. I wrote to keep my sanity. My passion was nature and living a sane healthy life, of course it has been a lifetime journey with the dolphins, and oceans that has helped me to develop my writing and teachings to make the world a better place.
When did you first start writing?
After the Gulf Oil Spill, where I organised and attended protests. I rescued dolphins, made the film Hope for the Dolphins, and then got sick. I started writing during my recovery. I am currently writing my adventures of living on a sailboat for 4 years with the dolphins.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Bubbles and Billy Sandwalker is the story of a little boy who doesn't fit in and how he meets the dolphins and they tell him who he really is. My latest book is Dolphins and Whales Forever the compulation of the top 20 Dolphin "whisperers" in the world. I am honored to be a part of this amazing group. It is a best seller.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
A publisher ripped me off and lost 300 books in the mail.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My book Bubbles and Billy Sandwalker has changed lives for the better. There are 2 sections The Bubble Exercise and Dolphin Rules for Shark Pools that have honestly helped people to create safety in their lives.
What are you working on next?
A animated version of the Billy Series for the kids, and Pirates, Mermaids and Me, A book about my sailing adventures. Next comes the book about how I survived my childhood and a book about a Mermaid who can't stay away from land and a girl who can't stay out of the Ocean. Culteral Exchange with lots of humor.
Who are your favorite authors?
Dean Koontz, Stephen King, Richard Bach, and many many more!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life is fun and joyful! I can't wait to see what is next! I just returned from 6 months in the jungle of Costa Rica where I was a Dolphin and Whale Guide. Life is always an adventure, if not create your own!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I create art, inspired from the oceans. Lots of beads and Mermaids!
What is your writing process?
I sit down and write when inspired. It happens very fast. Can't rest till I get it typed out. Then comes the real work of getting it edited.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I have been reading since I was 2 years old. Impactful books are Wrinkle in Time, Illusions, Johnathan Livingston Seagull, and so many more.
