Interview with Dominique Vincent

What are you working on next?
I am working on a Southern gothic novel.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The gift of life. Life is such a God given gift and there are so many new and exciting things that are right in front of us every day. I’m a cloud watcher and I love seeing the different shapes that the clouds form. For instance today I saw a big Santa face in the clouds.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I’m not writing I love photographing old trees that have seen better days. I love taking photographs and turning them into prints. I also work with animal rescue. I have never met a stray dog or cat that I did not love. I am absolutely committed to helping them find their owners or new homes if they do not have owners.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I browse around and pick out whatever looks interesting.
What is your writing process?
My writing process starts in the mind. Before my fingers hit the keys I get to know the characters for a day or two. By then they just jump onto the computer screen talking and acting out their stories.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. It was actually a poem about the ocean waves and an island. It was a fun filled poem that made me want to visit an island.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love to read all kinds of books. I like every age range if the story is good.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I like kindle and nook. It just depends on what is handy at the time.
Describe your desk
Actually, I do not write at a desk. Most of the time I write on my back porch balcony with my notebook and my goofy cat.
When did you first start writing?
When I was ten years old.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It was the best fit. Traditional publishing houses are taking on fewer projects and are less willing to take chances with new authors. I love to write and Smashwords seemed like a dream come true.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love seeing characters develop and show who they are and what their world is like.
What is your favorite food?
I absolutely love to make extra thick vanilla malts from Haagen-Dazs ice cream.
What is your favorite time of year?
My favorite time of year is Christmas. I absolutely love the lights of the Christmas tree and the festive smells of Christmas dinner and the lights of the neighborhood decorations.
