Interview with Cynda Thomas

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
When Pearl Harbor was bombed, I was 8 years old and lived on a farm in the sand hills of Oklahoma. Reminiscing about those years, and the changes in our family because of the war, prodded me to write my fictional story...The WASP and the Hornet.
What is your background for your writing material?
After graduating high school in Kansas, I joined Beech Aircraft in Wichita as a secretary. It was there that I met my future husband, Richard G."Dick" Thomas who was an X - Air Force jet pilot and a production test pilot. He joined the Kansas Air National Guard to fly jets. Then Boeing-Wichita hired him and sent him to the Navy's Test Pilot School in Patuxent River, Maryland. He was then hired by Northrop Corporation in California.Because of my own association with Lockheed Aircraft Corp, I had a fairly good knowledge of material that I found useful.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing my books gives me the opportunity to relive all those times of excitement, intrigue, and euphoric memories. It also helps me deal with the losses of family and acts as a catharsis.
What was the objective in writing?
Writing the first book, "He Came From the Sky", simply was my own entertainment as I cared for my sick husband. After I received so many accolades on the publishing of the book, I believed it to be a good movie script and translated into a spec script, which won third in a state-wide contest. My second book, "Hell of A Ride" is my late husband's bio, he was Northrop's chief test pilot on the 'Tacit Blue' stealth aircraft. The precursor to the B-2 Bomber. It is written in first person. It too has become quite popular with aerospace people. And so it goes, as I age (80) my mind thinks about those glorious years and I am moved to tell about them.
