Interview with Tammy Berg

who are your favorite authors
Jean M Auel , Stephen King, JD Robb, Phillpa Gregory, Terry Goodking...and so many more. I have very eclectic tastes in writing.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family,my animal sanctuary, and of course my writing.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
In the barn! Love being in the barn, have even considered putting a desk there to write from :)
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
E books are new to me actually. Just discovered them after my girls bought me my first tablet for Christmas a couple of years back. I then went in search of fellow authors of Custom Books Publications. So my first e books were by Andrew Bell and Dallas Sutherland. I purchased them from this site.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I was 12 and it was about a wolf and her pups.
What is your writing process?
I awaken, make my first cup of java and then spend the next few hours at my laptop. Stopping when its time to do chores for my large animal sanctuary, Tam's Tails. It's a non-profit I am just getting off the ground. Needless to say a house keeper would be great for me at this stage in my life. Children grown, I find now I spend my time with my animals, and my writing. The poor house is in need of some dusting!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes! Judy Blume, Are You There God, Its Me Margaret. A definite read for all tweens! It showed me I was not the only one struggling with coming of age.
How do you approach cover design?
That's done by the wonderful folks at Custom Books Publication. So far I have only had two covers designed, but loved both they designed first time around. My daughter Jessica designed my logo for the 5-Ever series, which I absolutely love. As well as drawing the map for Josie's farm and the land of 5-Ever.
What do you read for pleasure?
Often JD Robb, there easy reads, and she has a remarkable imagination. I love getting lost in her stories. But I also love Terry Goodkind fantasies! Like I said earlier, I have a wide range of favorites.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
A tablet my daughters bought me.
Describe your desk
LOL, its a TV table with my laptop on it!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Just outside a small fishing village in Ontario Canada. I was lucky to have a diverse childhood. My father being a farmer and the captain of a Commercial Fishing tug. I was called to work aboard his boat when deckies didn't show. As well as haul hay when the seasons of harvest came upon us. So I grew up in the fields and on the docks.
Definitely influenced my writing as the 5-ever series is set around Black Creek, a crick I played at that ran through the center of our farm, before spilling into Lake Erie. I guess now thinking about it, Black Creek linked me from the farm to the lake. It was a wonderful place to grow up.
When did you first start writing?
as a child, poems and short stories.
What are you working on next?
I am right now working on my first adult sci/fi. I should be finished in a couple of months, as long as the characters behave themselves and quit putting new ideas in my head ;). I came up with the idea, using what I know from growing up on the lake. Many times decking with my dad, we would pass over what was called the 'deep hole', just off Long Point. I use to imagine all kinds of things existing below the surface, just out of our view. My 5-Ever series for YA , was inspired by my growing up on the farm.
