Interview with Richard Ruhling

What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is Black Monday, October 7? and is subtitled "3 Reasons the Moon May Mean Trouble Surviving the Coming Bad Years." I'm seeing that apart from astrology, God gave His people a lunar calendar with the month to begin with a new moon, unlike our Gregorian Calendar that has a new moon on any day of the month.
The Bible offers several reasons why this may be important to us, especially if major events fit this biblical reckoning, like an economic collapse!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I appreciate Smashwords as a way to get my books to a broader segment of the market. They are very fair in their marketing plan and allow for affiliates who can be fairly compensated.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
IN contrast to fiction, sharing information that can make a different in one's life and destiny is a great feeling because "it is more blessed to give than to receive."
What do your fans mean to you?
The apostle Paul said, "Follow me as I follow Christ," and I think we want to share the light we have so others can see the way as troubles come.
What are you working on next?
My next ebook will be "Let My People Go!" It is a reference to Moses' appeal to Pharaoh when God's people were in bondage. With 800 FEMA camps that may soon be filled with political dissidents because they don't want to be part of the New World Order, many of those who don't flee the cities when martial law is set up may be a victim of government gone crazy.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite book is the Bible (66 books) and my favorite author in recent history is Ellen White who was mostly non-denominational and wrote books of high quality. The reader can sample them in the link below in the question on favorites.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I pray every day for a good use of my time--we won't pass again this way or have the same opportunities later.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I give programming to churches and other groups on topics of Health, Current Events and Bible Prophecy. I enjoy teaching and try to practice what I preach by eating well and getting exercise. I'm soon 72 and happily married.
What is your writing process?
Some authors do a whole book on one idea. I try to pack as much into a book as is relevant to the title.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to pick some graphics to represent the idea and give them to someone who does the cover.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Next to the Bible, my favorite, life-changing books are available online at and include Christ's Object Lessons (His parables), Desire of Ages (His biography, at one time recommended in the Library of Congress more than any other biography), The Great Controversy (how history is His Story--how God's people fled Europe for Freedom in the context of the Protestant Reformation), The Ministry of Healing (best book on health and happiness I've found and I taught health at Loma Linda University) and Patriarchs & Prophets offers excellent insights to much Bible history.
Final thoughts for readers?
Life is too short for good books--we should only read the best.
Fiction is to the mind what junk food is to the body--we should avoid it.
The Bible is the book of destiny but often not well-understood.
Take what anyone writes with an open mind, but test it to see
that the Bible supports what is being said. I've tried to do that--
I'm not the greatest writer, but in a sense, we are all betting our lives
on what we understand of Bible truths that apply to our time.
