Interview with D Antoinette

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
The use of social media has been effective and fairly cheap. People can basically contact you directly and it's that "access" that readers have(to the author) that helps in marketing. And did I mention it was cheap?
Describe your desk
Umm... what desk? I type on my laptop... in bed.
When did you first start writing?
I was seven and I started by writing letters to God because I didn't feel like I could pray properly. Then when I was in middle school, my health teacher taught us that writing was a great stress reliever. I, then started keeping journals and writing poems and my love for writing just grew,
What's the story behind your latest book?
So, The First Book of Carrie is loosely based on a family antidotal story that my brother and my cousins joke about our mothers and aunts. The Brooks women (consists of my mother and four aunts), we would say were crazy and all had their own kind of insanity. I took that idea and made it...evil (insert evil laugh) No way, is this story autobiographical. My aunts are not demons. Nor is my mother.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I grew tired of trying to get a traditional publisher interested. I knew I had a good story and I wanted to share it. I did the research and I was satisfied with the pros of being an indie author. Plus I own EVERYTHING! And I love the idea of that.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I'm not sure if it has but it has given me another avenue to release and showcase my work.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating. I still have the same imagination that I had as a child and sometimes my hands are not fast enough to type what I see and hear in my head.
What do your fans mean to you?
I LOVE my fans! When people are invented in something you created it's: awesome, amazing, and humbly all at the same time. Without my fans, I have no career, I am grateful!
What are you working on next?
The Second Book of Carrie and also a prequel to The First Book of Carrie.
Who are your favorite authors?
Dr. Seuss is my favorite! I am also a fan of Stephen King (obviously), Stephanie Myers and myself!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My girls! My daughters are the reason I try to be the best me I can be. I would have giving up on myself along time ago.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, listening to music, promoting and spending time with my girls.
