Interview with Damien Vincence

When did you first start writing?
I was first introduced to creative writing when I was nine years old. By my fourth grade teacher who saw how my mind would work. I was always telling tales and lying about everything. I guess she figured this would be the best way for me to use my imagination properly. I would write very strange books about war, death and conflict with lashings of sex included in the writing. I was not sure why but I absolutely loved that sort of thing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story revolves around the dark and twisted love that SInzielle and Azneah have for each other. how they have been wronged by those in power and seek to call themselves good. and how those that are evil have a hand in this plot as well. It seeks to show that revenge always has a price and that you must be aware of this. and it shows that even monsters have a heart, feel love and fight for freedom. because without it how can they be expected to live their lives freely. It also introduces the reader to a much wider universe and a glimpse into the secrets hidden from mortal creatures.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have always wanted to be an author, but when I was young trying to secure a contract was considered next to impossible. so I had to put my plans for that away and focus on a more realistic career. Of late there have been a few health issues that brought my wiritng back to the front of my mind. and I just decided now the time is to create my work and publish it. I spend so much of my day thinking up new stories, it was always inevitable that this would happen.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
that other people actually like the stories I tell and enjoy what I have to offer. also the large burden it removes from my mind. it is very therapeutic for me and I take a great joy from being able to walk through the day. knowing that when I write everything will be ok once more.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are extremely important to me, without them I would be nowhere. I always want to do best by my fans. that is why I keep the cost of my books low and am always writing new stories. they are very much my world to me.
What are you working on next?
there is a novella being created that will show the reader the world of the Five Sisters Dark Karnival in its prime. and another novella that winds up the tales of Kalina and Nasrin as well as Jackie and Jasmine. I am also going back through my work and re-purposing old work for my website. these will be made available for free. character.

How do you approach cover design?
I try to think exactly what is the main focus of the story and how one image can accurately portray this. from there I begin looking around for images that will be suit my needs. the face on the first one was simple. it is the face we send so much time staring at, and it is the one thing that will truly deceive you.
What do you read for pleasure?
this is going to sound really silly, but I love to read clothing catalogs for simple pleasure. and maybe some doctor seuss.
