Interview with E.B. Michaels

Published 2015-07-14.
Who are your favorite authors?
I've read books written by so many authors it's hard to narrow them down to just a few. But if I had to name a couple I would have to choose, Nora Roberts, E.L. James, Stephanie Meyers, River Savage and Nicholas Sparks.
What do you read for pleasure?
I'm an avid reader and enjoy a variety of genres. If I'm not writing then I'm reading. I like mystery's and books with suspense. But I also like to read books written by other romance and erotic authors. The romance and erotic genres are the two genres I was first introduced to when I really started to read. It's also probably the reason I wanted to write romance and erotica since I'm so taking with them.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I like to read from my Kindle, but I'll also read off my iPhone if I'm not able to use my Kindle. I read everywhere I go whether it's the doctors office, hair salon, or just watching TV. So my iPhone comes in handy a lot of the time, but I try to keep my Kindle with me for the bigger screen.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My inspiration to get out of bed each day isn't a what it's a who. My daughter is my inspiration each day. Every morning I wake up to her sweet face and blue eyes that let me know I've done something right with my life. Being a mother is a special job all in it's own.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy of writing is watching my stories come to life on paper and just thinking that someone might enjoy reading them. I know what I write isn't for everyone, but it's a big world someone might like them. At the thought of someone out there reading books makes me feel I have accomplished something, and I hope that they can relate to my characters. I like to keep my characters as real as possible, so that when someone is reading my book, they can understand why my character does what they do.
What's the story behind your latest book?
By knowing some individuals who have experienced domestic violence and overcoming the hold it had on them I just felt like I needed to address this in "Fierce Attraction". When most people think of a domestic violence victim, they think of someone who is beat down so badly they don't want to go on, but this isn't always the case. I know people that have been through this kind of situation are very independent, amazing, and strong individuals. These people inspired me and therefore, I wanted to give a voice to every person out there and show that there can be life outside of their past. That they can move on, start over and never again have to be a victim.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I've always wanted to be a writer, and for as long as I can remember I know that is what I would do one day. As a child I would sit and write short stories while the neighborhood kids were outside playing. I'm also very head strong, and when I want something done instead of letting someone else handle it I do it myself. So when I was ready to put my first book out there, I didn't even try a publishing house, instead I decided to do it myself through eBooks. By doing it myself I can guarantee it will be out there for whom ever wants to read it to find. I'm not trying to get rich I just want other to enjoy what I write.
Describe your desk
My desk is in my sunroom, that way I'm surrounded by windows, sunlight and fresh air. It holds my laptop, notebooks, a cup of ink pens and a lot of post it's. I also have post it's stuck to the wall in front of my desk. I keep a cushion in my chair that way when I can't pull myself out of my little zone I get in at times my back won't hurt as bad.
What is your writing process?
My writing process is one that may not work for anyone else, but works for me. I start out with a yellow legal pad and a pen. I carry these two items around with me everywhere I go and I purposely go out into the world to see what will come to me. Normally, by the time I come home I have little notes scribbled for pages. Then I take those notes and organize them out on flash cards. Using the flash cards I can assemble some type of order and time line. Then I start to write. When I write if I come to something I'm not sure what I'm going to do with then I leave it blank with a note to go back. There is no point in pushing something out into your writing if your not sure you want it there this will cause it not to flow. It's a complicated process and takes a lot of time. Like I said it's my own process and it may not work for anyone else.
What are you working on next?
My next book hasn't been titled yet, but it is taking shape. I'm going to try to venture more into the erotica genre with my next book and hopefully my readers will love it. I don't want to reveal to much about it until I have more, but I will say that it's going to be a steamy one with a very alpha male and a good girl who may not be as good as she seems. Readers can check with my webpage soon to find out more and the release date.
