Interview with Erin Buczkowski

Who are your favorite authors?
I read constantly, so I have many favourites... the classics are usually mentioned, so instead I will give a shout out to some modern authors whose work I adore: Diana Wynne Jones, Charles de Lint, Robert Sawyer, Neil Gaiman and Deborah Harkness. Yes, pretty much all fantasy and sci-fi. I read all genres, but these are my go-to favourites.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The mournful howl that turns into an impatient "Get out of your damn bed and walk me" wookie commentary of my gorgeous malamute husky, Toffee. That and the fact that I have kids to feed and a job to get to... Given the northern location of my home, I don't need to get up early to enjoy a sunrise and the mist coming off the river. Why wouldn't I want to get out of bed?!!!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
My first "famous" story was a Nancy Drew knockoff that netted me a $5 prize at the county fair when I was in elementary school. Thankfully since then I've learned the value of a unique voice and taking a story down unexpected paths.
What do you read for pleasure?
Umm... everything? Cereal boxes, morning newspaper, it is almost OCD. The books that I have put down without reading to the end are a rare breed. I can only think of two that hit the bin- one was rated a best seller, the other was an aircraft design manual. What can I say, it was lying around and I had to pick it up ;)
What is your e-reading device of choice?
KOBO. With a pretty orange leather cover that I received for Mother's Day. My family knows me well!
