Interview with Eru Hiko-Tahuri

What motivated you to become an indie author?
When I searched for other Maori who had written about being an atheist I couldn't find any so I decided I would.
When did you first start writing?
I startes writing about a year ago. After all the reading and learning I had done I needed a away to help organize my thoughts so I startedwriting a blog called Maoriboyatheist. Ass a side project I thought I would tell my atheist story
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I find that writing helps me to clarify my own position on things and sometimes I discover that I don't know things I thought I did!
Who are your favorite authors?
George RR Martin is, so far, my favorite fiction author. I love reading almost anything from Christopher Hitchens. I always learn something new from him.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family...always!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time with family. I paint, I draw, I play music
What is your writing process?
My writing process is pretty simple. I sit at a computer and type. Read what I written and see if anything grabs my attention and work that. Then grab some post-it notes, write down ideas as they come. Organize the post-it notes into themes and an order then write until done.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. Letter to a Young Contrarian by Christopher Hitchens. When I read it I felt as though it was written just for me...amazing

2. I read Robot Revoltby Nicholas Fisk as a 10 year old. I loved robots since then!

3. 2000AD comic series. I collected it as a child. Judge Dredd Rules!

4. Infidel by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. An amazing story

5. Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. Funniest books ever Douglas Adams is the man
Describe your desk
I don't have a desk! I write on a laptop wherever I am. As long as I've got a wall handy for my post-it notes!
What are you working on next?
I'm thinking of writing a book about being a Māori atheist in culture where almost everyone believes.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
To find ebooksmy first stop, of course, is SMASHWORDS! Then I trawl the internet or ask friends what they are reading!
