What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use Kindle app on my phone and computer.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media has been the best marketing technique for me so far.
Describe your desk
I don't have a desk. My SurfacePro may sit on my lap or the kitchen table. Also I keep a notebook with me to write chapters that come to me while at work, or a doctor's appointment.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the midwest. My teachers encouraged me to write.
When did you first start writing?
About five years ago I started with short stories for some friends and that developed into my first book.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I was sitting at work and this woman kept coming into my mind. She was dark haired, with a white dress on and a shawl wrapped around her shoulders standing at the edge of the cliff watching the waves hits the rocks below. She kept coming back to me. So I sat down and began her story.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I just wanted my book out. I had it professionally edited and heard that some writers were turning to self publish. I decided to give it a try.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
This is my first time with them. I am anxious to see myself what they will do.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Telling the story that is inside of my head.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are special to me. They wait patiently for me to finish and are the first to buy so they can read the story. They encourage me when it gets hard.
What are you working on next?
My next book is about a family, like any family but the parents have a secret life. They aren't super heroes, or spies, they have a secret side to their marriage.Should be out in September.
Who are your favorite authors?
Jane Austen, J K Rowling
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
First thing I do each morning is go exercise. So what inspires me to get out of bed is looking forward to marking on my goal app a tick mark for exercising.,
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work full-time. I am a mother, I garden.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Friends.
What is your writing process?
I start where the story is telling me to start. Sometimes that is not the first chapter. The first two books the ending came in the middle of the book. The book I am writing now I still don't know the ending.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No, I don't. I remember reading as a child and getting upset that I had to stop the movie to go eat. Then I realized that the movie was in my head and the book I could mark at anytime. The writers told the story well enough for me to see in my mind.
How do you approach cover design?
I have a great group that I work with. I give them the synopsis and what I am looking for on the book. They bring it alive.
