Interview with Earth Wise Books

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. My first story was Dark Escape.
What is your writing process?
When I'm inspired to write a novel, I spend at least one hour per day writing. There are some days when I have writer's block and continuing is difficult so I review and edit what I've already written and then add whatever else I'm able to do that day to help the story move forward.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I've been reading for so many years at such a rate that I truly can't remember, but I've been wanting to write since I was a little girl and dabbled at things through the years but was never confident enough to consider them completed and ready to publish until I wrote Dark Escape.
How do you approach cover design?
I strive to have it reflect the mood or the characters in the novel.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Sookie Stackhouse (series) because it's just plain cute and fun with all my favorite fantasy type characters in it.
Game of Thrones (Series) His style of writing in inspiring.
Vanity Fair because it's your typical romantic drama that is timeless
Little Women because it's well written
Dracula because I feel Stoker was brave and daring to create such a character in that era where the mindset wasn't as it is today
What do you read for pleasure?
I fluctuate between fiction and non fiction
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have an android with a kindle app on it.
Describe your desk
My desk sits in front of a window with my laptop, paper and pens on it.
When did you first start writing?
I was twelve years old when I started dabbling in writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Vampire romance with some thrills and chills thrown in the mix.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I ran a contest for one of my books and when I ordered the paperbacks from my publisher I was unhappy with the quality of their layout, etc. and I felt the book was severely overpriced.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's made distribution super easy and complete.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I've finished creating a story I feel like I've lived it myself.
What do your fans mean to you?
Their enjoyment and appreciation in what I write is what motivates me to continue writing. There are times when I'll write a line or dialog and think about a specific comment a reader has made and smile in anticipation of them enjoying that line or dialog I've just written.
What are you working on next?
I plan on starting the sequel to Vampire Witch soon
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life. I love it.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I still have a small holistic business that I operate.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Generally either from word or mouth or if someone asks me to review for them.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
blog tours
Who are your favorite authors?
Charlene Harris for fiction
Zecharia Sitchin for non fiction
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in upstate New York State, USA. I tend to have my stories take place in the northeast of the USA.
