Interview with Elle Le Blanc

When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was 7 years old, that was when I got my first diary and every year after that I got a diary for my birthday until I was done with high school. After I completed my last diary I started to write in a journal instead and have been writing in a journal off and on throughout most of my life ever since then.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, the first story I wrote was a "Little House on the Prairie" style of story (I was greatly inspired by Laura Ingalls Wilder's books and also the TV show), I wrote this story when I was 7 soon after I started writing in my diary. I ended up turning it into a book and the book had my own hand drawn illustrations in it, it had a thin white card board front and back cover which was folded in half and so was the paper inside and the binding was made of yarn, the front cover had an illustration of a covered wagon on it. So, I guess with a beginning like that I was just destined to write books and design my own covers too!
Describe your desk
My desk is essentially two TV trays side by side and each one has a lap top on it and a chair, beside the chair on the floor is a box with a bunch of notebooks in it and a couple of pens (I am kind of a minimalist with most things).
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
They are usually books that have been recommended by other people.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to hike, cook and I am a vintage clothing collector.
What is your writing process?
I mostly write non fiction, so each book starts off with journal writing and then I transfer the parts that I want to put into a book format into a word document. The times that I have written fiction stories, they started off as ideas in my head that I would jot down on pieces of paper. After that I would take a few months to formulate the story in my head and then once a story was formed in my head I would type it all out into a word document. I ended up putting several of my fiction stories into a blog that I had and sometimes I would even model in photo shoots to depict scenes in the stories and I added those to the stories in the blog also (this was a blog that I had several years ago devoted to my dark fantasy genre stories but I do not write in this blog any longer).
How do you approach cover design?
So far I have designed my own covers (I designed the cover for The Principles of Peace and for The New Gal which is my next book that I have coming out soon also). I know it is not recommended for writers to design their own covers but I did a fair amount of research and learning online in regards to cover design. I get tons of people saying... oh wow your book covers are so beautiful or your book covers look so cool! So I must be doing something right but I personally have always been artistic so that does help.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I have been writing ever since I first learned how to put sentences together and because of this it comes very natural to me. I would have to say that the greatest joy of writing for me is be able to express myself in this way and to be able to easily share what I have written with others through so many different avenues such as social media, blogging and now books too. It is a lot of fun for me to do this.
