Interview with Colonel D. R. Acula

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Letting it flow... pen to paper... or finger to key... the art of creating and forging a world with your own very words... with your very own thoughts. Building the cities, the landscapes... birthing the characters...

As the story continues, the world around you fades away and you become immersed in the dreamscape you are constructing through prose.

That... is a joy unlike any other.
What are you working on next?
Part three of the 'Alderdice Tales' ...my short story series...

The continuing terror of Nettie.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Coffee and lots of it.

haha...

Different things, it just depends.

I suppose overall the eagerness to finish whatever I planned for that day... is the drive that pushes me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I've added several pursuits to my passions... including: Photographer, Musician, Graphic Artist, Painter, Gardner, Naturalist, Historian, Writer

I spend a great deal of my time photographing wildlife and nature in general. Flora and Fauna.

In the past I composed a little music here and there for the purpose of passing the time.

Mostly I enjoy the rewarding bliss of the rural countryside over the hectic cityscapes.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I dont exactly remember the very fist story.

But growing up my mom read a LOT of stories to me. When I got old enough, she let me take it over and I read to her. Long before I started my first day of school, I was already well ahead of my class in terms of reading.
How do you approach cover design?
The cover i a visual representation of everything your story is about.

"How do you approach cover design?"

Very carefully... if you dont portray your story with justice via the cover... then the cover is dead... no feeling.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Kentucky.... rural eastern Kentucky.

Its quiet, its remote and at night very very dark... with all sorts of 'wild' sounds.

Its an imaginations playground to run wild ;)
What's the story behind your latest book?
Its a short story (3,818 words) that follows the tragic and horrifying events that center around Bennet Alderdice and his courting bride to be, Nettie Vandenberg, on a secluded Louisiana Estate. This is part one of the 'The Alderdice Tales'. The first in a continuing saga of short horror tales.

What motivated you to become an indie author?
The lack of a publisher and the courage to take on the world.
Describe your desk
Its wide, its open, its free... Its my front porch that I sat upon peering into the beautiful wild fields and hills of eastern Kentucky
