Interview with Ernest K. Aning

Published 2018-07-28.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing gives me liberty to do whatever I want to your mind. That's power! Aside from that, my imagination is unleashed, where I can periodically escape real life.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Thinking. Observing my surroundings, thinking of ways to make improvements in all walks of life. When I'm not being a "thought-provoking nerd," I'm usually at the gym!
What is your writing process?
First and foremost, I am a stickler for productivity and take pride in waking up in the wee hours of the morning to create content. They say the hours of 3 and 4 a.m. are for 'over-thinkers, silence seekers and creative people'. If this doesn't describe me, I don't know WHAT does! Furthermore, the core of my inspiration comes from personal experiences or real life matters. I like to collect a plethora of thoughts, create scenes in my head and the ones that move me get the green light.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Creative control. I enjoy rolling up my sleeves and putting in the necessary work in anticipation for a publication release. To watch everything come into fruition (after the mental preparation involved and before attempting my first keystroke) is simply amazing.
Describe your desk
I'd say it's pretty organized. A desk lamp, a notepad, random papers (usually an outline of the forthcoming book or a checklist) overlooked by a huge canvas painting of an abandoned beach with an incredible sunset. I'm a sucker for a nice sunset and I usually get lost in thought looking at that painting.
