Interview with Bill Schwan

When did you first start writing?
In my teens, which means I've been at this for forty years. Wow, I'm old!
What's the story behind your latest book?
Skinwalker is a retelling of Dante's Inferno and is the story of a living human who still has his skin on taking a walk through hell. I've been troubled by the propensity of people to totally deny the possibility of sin as understood in the Bible, and Dante's epic of redemption served as the perfect template to examine the "sinfulness of sin".
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Someone dared me to give it a try.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It gave me the rudimentary tools needed to attempt this e publishing thing.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When people see themselves in something I wrote.
What do your fans mean to you?
They are the reason to keep writing, which is a pretty important motivator.
Who are your favorite authors?
C.S. Lewis, Holly Ordway, Larry Niven, Phillip Yancey, James Bryan Smith
What do you read for pleasure?
When I'm not entertaining myself writing fiction I'm writing Sunday School lessons, and I take a great deal of pleasure in studying so that I might most effectively write the material I will eventually be teaching.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
An android tablet with all popular e reader apps installed.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
During the week, my job. On the weekends, the fact that I don't have to go to work.
What is your writing process?
Research the subject matter to death, outline the plot almost to the point of completing the story, then just add the details.
