Interview with F. L. Williams

Published 2014-07-07.
How do you approach cover design?
I wanted a female who had red hair, rather wild looking, with features that stuck in your head but would not be considered a classic beauty...and I wanted a drawing, not a photo.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon

Why? Time travel, an author who can paint a picture so well with words you feel you are there.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mainly sci-fi type romance.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My tablet.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have mainly used 'word of mouth'...still new at this marketing stuff.
Describe your desk
Two screens take up the whole desk with a tower stuck over in a corner...lots of papers, glasses, paper towels.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Grew up in Texas. Probably influenced me by using Texas as places my characters are from, approach to dialogue.
When did you first start writing?
I have written off and on for years. Seriously the last five.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My interest in science, the "what if's" if procedures were available that aren't now, how would society react?
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Time. I'm older so waiting for 10 years to be discovered in a slush pile wasn't appealing.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Helping me with promotions.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing my characters come to life.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans?? Well the people who have supported me so far mean the world.
What are you working on next?
A time travel novel.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, messing with dogs and garden.
What is your writing process?
I write by scenes. When one comes to me that I like, I write it.
