Interview with K. M. Joshi

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Mostly, I think of ways to improve my writing skills. Otherwise, I read and check my email, twitter and so on.
What is your writing process?
First, I think of a story background. I imagine each character and make up a movie in my mind. I draft them down in a chart and use it to write. Usually, I write roughly at first, then improve it later on.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like reading gothic and fantasy genre books. I like reading old fictions like J.R.R Tolkien's The Hobbit. They are fun and very good for improving one's writing skill.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I love reading in my tablet. It is very easy to use and it is very flexible as well, especially when using some specific apps.
What's the story behind your latest book?
As I have mentioned before, I love fiction, my latest book has similar contents. The novel holds a story of the world having different dimensions and our world being one of them. The story takes place in a different dimension, which was once an ally of human-dimension. However, a war separated them and now some seek revenge with the humans. Therefore, to stop the impending doom, our heroes must travel and find the necessary weapon to destroy the plot.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I started writing when I was in school and my teachers (and friends) loved my writing style. So, I decided to write something as a project. It turned out good. Then, I took part in the weekly writing competition and achieved the first place. Then, I began writing as an author.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has truly been a boon for indie authors, like me. I cannot express my feelings about it in words. Smashwords inspired me to be a writer because it has made publishing truly easy.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are my helpers and my mentors. They are the ones who review my works, which helps me improve my works.
Who are your favorite authors?
This is my favorite question to answer. The thing is I don't have a favorite author. Each author teach me something different. However, I love J.R.R Tolkien more.
How do you approach cover design?
Cover designing is a difficult part for the writers to overcome. I got my book's cover designed with the help of designers and myself. I have always liked painting, which helps in designing covers as well.
