Interview with Kari Ann Fallon

Do you read for pleasure?
YESSS! I absolutely LOVE reading! Reading helps me recharge and focus when writer's block sets in. When my mind can't focus on my own writing, I find inspiration reading. It puts into perspective what I'm working towards. While I love writing, there's something magical about getting lost in a story crafted by someone else. I love seeing their literary decisions and how they connect story lines. A lot of time, I read the works of amature writers. It's a good way to remind myself that everyone starts somewhere and that not everything I write has to be life changing. Some of my favorite authors have never earned a penny for their efforts.
When did you first start writing?
I first began writing for fun when I was about 12. However, when I was about 6 or 7, I'd take notebooks and just write scribbles all over as if I was writing a book. As far back as I can remember, I have been obsessed with journals and diaries. I always have empty notebooks and binders around in case I decided to begin a new project. I started off writing poems when I was 12. I love working with rhymes and also write song lyrics as well. Just recently I have developed a passion for writing short stories. I am still intimidated at the idea of writing a novel, but it's my goal to eventually conquer that fear.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is a great outlet for stress and emotions that are difficult for me to express in real life. I can get lost in the characters and let myself go places that I wouldn't ordinarily let myself go. It's interesting when I discover things about myself that I didn't even realize. It's a very therapeutic way to release my emotions.
