Interview with Poppy Pepper

Why weren't you angry?
I was but I was more disappointed and depressed but helpless too. I was never a confrontational type of person. I did not know then that my husband enjoyed arguments and calling people nasty names. His family always said "He didn't mean it."
Why did you stay?
I had planned to leave but it turned out to be impossible. His only condition was that I leave our five children in the middle of night and disappear forever. How could I do that?
