Interview with Fatimoh Harris

What do you read for pleasure?
I read almost any romance or mystery book.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I enjoy meeting people face to face during events. I get to talk personally with buyers and those interested in the grant/nonprofit field. I enjoy answering questions the public have about grants and nonprofit work.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
My five favorite books are as follows:
1. The Bible because it keeps me moral, builds my character and encourages me to stay in this battle we call life. The stories encourage me in letting me know I'm not the only one in the world that have hiccups, valleys, peaks and above all, trust God.

2. Leadership and management books because they strengthen me as a person and help me assist others with practical lessons I have discovered from my readings.

3. Almost any Danielle Steele book. I enjoy her stories and yes, the romance.

4. Almost any James Patterson book. I enjoy the mysteries and complex situations from his books. I enjoy the ride he sends his readers through and most of all the stories about Alex Cross. Alex Cross is my "secret" love. lol

5. My book, of course, Navigating the Grant Industry Handbook. This book has been requested for many years from my students and those that know me in the field. I am told that the practical lessons help readers understand the flow of Grant Administration better and they can work directly with the book while completing the RFP application and proposal processes.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Chicago. My work is influenced by the field of charity or philanthropy because I enjoy helping people. I am a behind the scenes person and have always been. There were many needs in my low-income community and I saw a lot of misfortune growing up.

I have always helped in the office by doing various tasks to make charitable programs/projects be successful. I'm just another helping hand in life.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing poems and stories in elementary school. I begin writing for my previous church as a team member to help with our homeless program and the passion grew from there.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind the book I'm writing now is teaching nonprofit administrative skills and management. It is a marriage to my grant administration book and actually preferred to read and understand before entering grant processes.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords have contributed to my success by allowing me to have a larger platform of great readers. I find that the company is not just interested in the author but have many teaching and marketing tools to help strengthen us. I'm glad I found them.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are very important to me. I write for them. I want them to know they can write proposals and get funded regardless of their educational level and regardless of their work and funding experience. Use my books and knowledge available in the field and just GO FOR IT!
Who are your favorite authors?
God
James Patterson
Danielle Steele
Myles Monroe
What are you working on next?
I'm working on helping my daughter complete and publish her books. She writes awesome fiction stories. I'm so excited for her!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The day is always brand new. It's a new day to love, embrace the unknown and complete goals.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I am enjoying my children and grandson. We are always busy working on personal goals together and finding new things to do.
