Interview with Felicitas Acen

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading, browsing the internet, talking to friends and watching TV.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favourite authors are Donna Leon, John Grisham, and Dee Henderson.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in high school. At first I wrote short stories, I graduated to novels much later.
What are you working on next?
I am working on another romance book. I'm still undecided whether to set it in one or two countries. I love the challenge of having a story set in different countries or cultures. I think it brings a different element to the story.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Sometimes I search by genera, other times I go by the latest release. Occasional I will select a book based on it's cover. I know the famous saying, never judge a book by it's cover. But some covers are as compelling as the book.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't remember my first story but I remember the first time I wrote something and shared it with another person. I was in high school, I wrote a collection of short stories and requested one of the English teachers to provide feedback. When I look back, I am amazed that she took the time to read my stories and comment. That's teacher's feedback encouraged me to continue writing.
How do you approach cover design?
I take one of the settings in the novel and try to incorporate it in the cover. Then I share the draft cover with my friends and beta readers. After that I contact a cover designer.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read just about everything - mystery, suspense, romance, thrillers, drama, sci-fi, historical, ..., it really depends on my mood. I tend to go for books with happy endings.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
The freedom and opportunity it provides.
