What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I always start with a map and a set of people. I love people's eccentricities and foibles. I listen in on trains and buses, and always keep a notebook with me. Real life is so much richer than people think. I draw on it eternally

What are you working on next?
I'm working on a novel which is based on true events at the end of the seventeenth century. It's a fabulous story, with an amazing lead character. Only researching at the moment, but I'm raring to go...
