Interview with Marcetta Davis

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I have always loved writing, to me it is like a drug and lets me escape. I started in the fifth grade, when I was introduced to it by a teacher. Ever since, I just can't stop.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean the world, without them I am nobody. They are my support system, without them is like having a body without arms and legs.
What are you working on next?
I am actually working on a script called The Messy Christmas.
Who are your favorite authors?
Nicholas Sparks, Timothy Zahn, Claudia Gray, and Carrie Fisher
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I am inspired by things around me. God gave me breath to inspire others, I am insprired just to be a better person. So life in general inspires me to get out of bed.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a book worm, I am always reading. When I am not reading I am spending time with my dogs Sadie and Fisher and my fiance Michael. I'm also volunteer in my church and my community.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I read reviews. To me, it is all in the title of the book. If the title does'nt grab me, I do not touch it.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do, it was about a girl who went back in time to the Vietnam war. I was in fifth grade and my teacher submitted in to a contest and it won. I still have it and look back on it and smile.
What is your writing process?
I study a subject and write about it. For instance, Cadillac Revenge is based off of Carrie Underwood's Two Black Cadillacs song. I just simply wondered what was going through those two women's minds. I made it so you felt empathy for the characters. Being I could not relate to the characters. I simply studied Criminal Minds to get the murder aspect. I am not a killer by nature and I am happily engaged so I had to draw inspiration.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember the Disney Princess's having a huge impact on my life. I admired how they got to be themselves and become strong bold women. I remember my mom reading Beauty and the Beast and I just dreamed that I could be half the woman that she was. I feel like now she impacted me a lot more that I never knew.
How do you approach cover design?
A picture is worth a million words. If the picture is lacking than your audience is not going to grab for it.
