Interview with C.A. Villeta

Who are your favorite authors?
J.K. Rowling, Alice Sebold, Philippa Gregory, Gregory Macguire, Jane Austen, Leo Tolstoy
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
What inspires me is the simple fact that I am alive to witness and experience that very particular day.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I usually read books, make dolls, express myself through arts and crafts, and explore the world as a flight attendant.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I usually scan the Internet for blog stating different lists of e-books to read or I just go to Goodreads.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I was in college when I wrote it. It was about how two friends met and caught up with each other after years of absence and separation.
Describe your desk
My desk has been the same one since my high-school days. It was a hand-me-down from my older brother's schooling year. It is made of Narra wood with an installed lamp and shelves above and below the desk with the typical under-desk drawer. On the lower shelf is a box full of art materials - pens, paints, paint brushes, clay, yarns, beading supplies, and other things. On the upper shelf are books on arts and crafts, my art journals, writing journals, idea pad, sketchbooks, and loose papers. Inside my drawer are office supplies - the typical pens, rulers, sharpeners, and all that jazz.. On my desktop are my cutting board, pen holder, and a small desk clock.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Well, I was accidentally introduced to the world of roleplay in Instagram. I started roleplaying with roleplay accounts, trying to get a feel of it before I made my own, rp_livesandtimes.
I thought that all those ideas and fantasy scenarios swimming in my head while I was growing up was just me being extremely weird. Then, when I entered roleplaying, I realized that I could write all those ideas on paper since I am not alone.
I also met great people via roleplaying that encouraged me to start writing so "Why not?"
What are you working on next?
After watching X-Men: Days of Future Past, I was inspired to make another fanfiction. This time, it will be the story of Charles Xavier's struggle during the 70's with the Vietnam War and his consecutive losses. But, we'll how it works out.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the suburbs of Metro Manila, Philippines. Here, chaos and serenity coincide. Growing up, I learned to survive by teaching myself to see the fun and adventure in such a disruptive environment. I learned to find peace and beauty despite the darkness.
In my writing, I try my best to use that darkness. One cannot see the light if he does not know what darkness is. One cannot see beauty if he does not experience what it feels like to be horrid.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Loki Laufeyson has truly fascinated me.
Not only because of the fact that he was portrayed excellently by Mr. Tom Hiddleston (but it did help)
Loki is an oxymoron. He is a god yet he could never be so human.
I even wrote a feature article about it on my blog.

Cold is my interpretation of the drastic change in Loki.
Here, this story is dedicated to all of us because I believe that we all have that moment - the moment where we suddenly decide or become compelled to be that person that we are now.
I really hope I was able to share that idea with everyone since "Cold" is my first attempt in published writing.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything.
As a budding writer, the mere fact that even one person took the time to download, read, or comment on my work means loads.
It gives me that hope that I am not a lost cause and that I really have a shot at being a writer.
