Interview with Frank Claudy

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Oh, yes, I do. I was 10 years old and had my first crush, a guy from my class. I still have this story, as well as any other story I have ever written and all my diaries. But I have a lot of problems reading the handwriting I had at the time.
What is your writing process?
I get an idea for a story. Then I start thinking about this story wherever I go. After a while I cannot stop thinking about it. So I start writing and often cannot stop until the story is finished. Often the story takes a completely different turn during the writing, but that is okay. When I've finished the story, I put it away for several month. Than I read it again and start doing the correction. If I still like it afterwards I publish it.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Not really. I learned reading before school and never stopped. I have always read everything that popped up in front of me, instructions, ingredients on a tin, adds, no matter what.
How do you approach cover design?
I don't. I am not very good with art or design. I started doing graffiti for my covers and found it cool, so I stayed with it. But maybe I should find a graphic artist and change the covers. My problem is: Once a book is finished I don't spend much time with it anymore. I am already thinking about new stories. So I don't really bother with a cover anymore. I know it's lame, but for me the story was always more important than the cover.
What do you read for pleasure?
Everything that is contemperary. I don't like historical, fantasy or shifter stories. I like a bit of adventure, but basically I am interested in day-to-day life of other people.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
BeBook Club S. I have several e-reading devices, a BeBook One, 2 BeBook mini, 2 BeBook Club S and a Koobe Slimbook.
I'm an old fashioned e-book reader type. I don't like a touchscreen and I don't want to use a bookshop. So no Kindle or Tolino for me.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
None so far. I have been naive and thought it's enough to write and publish a story and people will read it. For a while I have published on a website where I got a lot of readers and good reviews. I even have been nominated for an award. Somehow I thought it would be enough to publish on other sites, but now I see that it's not.
Unfortunately, I don't find the time to change it. So I am still waiting for readers to discover me.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My day-to-day-job and the fact that I need to eat.
