Interview with Virginia Watkins

Published 2017-02-08.
What do you read for pleasure?
For pleasure I enjoy reading DIY magizines, and I simply love everything Martha Stewart!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Nook, and Kindle are my two go to e-readers.
Describe your desk
Ummm, to describe my desk... It is a tri-level Cherry wood desk, it is enormous. However it has to be just that, for my desktop PC, printers, laptop, scanners, and still have enough room for all my scribblings, pens, charcoal pencils, papers paints, and inks.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a tiny town in Northeast Arkansas, with very little else to do other than use my great big imagination.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was old enough to hold a pencil. I always knew I wanted to write.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my latest book, is that wanted to share a big collection of my Southern Home-Style Cooking... When most people think of Southern food, they tend to think of fatty, greasy foods. I'm totally Southern, and I wanted to share a much healthier take about Southern foods.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Welp, let's face it... I have worked hard all my life, raised in a tiny town, basically of proverty, life hasn't always had as many ups, as there were downs. Big publishing companies tend to go overboard with pricing, I found that being a indie author was slot more suitable to me.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I have just recently published with Smashwords, so you will have to ask me this question again later on. Hopefully all goes very well!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for myself, is that I can lose myself into my work. And I do mean lose myself! I enjoy it so much, my day begins and ends with me writing.
What do your fans mean to you?
I would have to say that without my fans, I would be lost for words. Fans of course mean everything to me! They are who leads me to my success!
What are you working on next?
My next book is probablly going to be a novel. Hopefully a masterpiece.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The number one thing that inspires me out of my bed, is caffeine! Lol! No really I'm not joking! I stay up so late writing, when that alarm goes off, I just want to smack it!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I spend time in my organic gardens. I love being outdoors when the weather is nice. Other than that my time is usually always spent in my kitchen.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I normally just get online, and Wahl-Lah!!!
What is your writing process?
My writing process, always begins with a clear thought process, then scribblings of my ideas, next I start writing rough drafts, until I think I finally got it completed. Then of course it gets revised, again and again and again!!!
How do you approach cover design?
Cover design for me is tricky! I normally try to use my own art, and photography for my book covers. Normally for my book cover idea, I will go into hours of work. I always use something that pertains to the the definition of what my book is about.
