Interview with Gina R. Jones

When did you first start writing?
When I was either 13 or 14.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do. It was a romance story. I also wrote some draft screenplays around that time. Sadly, I didn't keep any of these things. I would love to have them.
What are you working on next?
I call it "My Baby". It's a historical fiction romance that has been in the works for about fifteen years now. I'm really excited about it. But there's still a lot more work to do. Hopefully I will have it published by late August.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm always writing....even when I'm not.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love to research. Everything. I am always doing this. So far as reading goes, this gives me the most pleasure.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I got tired of searching for an agent. It really wasn't going anywhere, and I was tired of wasting time looking. I figured if my novels are going to go somewhere, they will. I can either do nothing or just do whatever I can...which turned out to go indie. At first I wasn't so excited about it. I don't really have a problem with it, anymore. I'm happy I made the decision.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything. I mean, that's really what it's all about...having people who love and read and want to read more of your stories. It's like a connection. I love my fans!
What is your writing process?
It seems to just come out of nowhere, usually. I can be doing anything, and then there are these characters just doing their own thing. It's crazy. But I just go with it. Sometimes I have no choice. It's like they won't stop until I start writing.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It feels really good being a part of this. But only time will tell what really truly comes out of it.
And finally, what would you do with your success if you were to become successful?
That's actually a tough one,. Everyone always has these ideas of what they would do. And those who do become successful usually end up doing something completely different than what they planned they would do. I'm not really sure. Of course there are people I would remember who encouraged me through the rough spaces in life. There are a lot of causes I believe in. For me, well I know I would travel. I want to go tour old castles and just see new things and experience different cultures. That would really make me happy. .
