Interview with M. Inks

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Being productive motivates me every day. There's always something to be done either at work, school or at home. There are clients to be seen, things to be analyzed, and something to be cleaned or fixed at home.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend most of my time focusing on school work as a Biology Major at North Central College. The other half of my time is spent working. Studying is filled with pages upon pages of reading textbooks, lab reports, creating study guides, and talking with my professors. For work, I am PT at a mobile preventative vet clinic, doing vaccinations for cats and dogs.
What are you working on next?
Right now, I'm working on an old book from 2012. It's an old werewolf romance novel. It needs a few edits here and there but the plot and characters are all there. My goal is to have it up by August 2019!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My iPhone is always my favorite because I can take it with me wherever.
What is your writing process?
Most of my ideas start as a short blurb written down in my notebook. When I'm ready to work on the idea, I start creating character and plot sheets. These two sheets have detailed descriptions of the plot points, characters, places/settings, etc. Then the writing starts. Usually, I'll write the plot points as I'm writing the first draft.
When did you first start writing?
I would say either in 3rd grade or in 8th grade. I used to love writing poetry back in the third grade. It was my favorite writing unit then and I kept writing at home in my free time. I picked up writing stories on Wattpad around the 8th grade when I was about 12. It quickly became my favorite hobby. I loved it and I felt the support from my readers keep me going.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book as of June 2019 came from wanting to write superhero fiction. I've become a fan of Marvel over the last couple years and I wanted to create the same effect. I wanted to recreate that figure that can fall and rise back up to fight the world's villains, that inspires hope when the people around them have lost it, and on that no matter how horrible things become they stay true. My writing, I feel, is best in the supernatural genre. So, I decided to create a mix of supernatural and heroism. Rather then powered suits and superpowers I have a world of supernatural beings with wings, fangs and supernatural abilities. And that's how Riverdale Renegades: Thirteen of Hearts came to be. I started writing it in 2016 but did not publish until 2018.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I guess my love for writing motivated me to become an indie author. I've practice writing for years and have found a lot of support from writing on Wattpad. So, I decided to take a step forward and become an indie author.
