Interview with HC MacDonald

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Sharing it with my children. They have been a big influence in motivating me and sharing my stories. They enjoy hearing the plot and we have good discussions as a family. I feel like we have connected on whole new level as a family.
What do your fans mean to you?
I love my fans. To me they are the most awesome people in the world. I am grateful for their support and encouragement.
How do you approach cover design?
I found a designer through the internet who worked with me on the first to books. My third book I wanted to give back to the community so, I enlisted the help and aid of the local high school art students. Together a student was picked to create the cover design of the book. It was a great experience for us both. I enjoyed working and mentoring the student.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My children motivated me to become and Indie author. They enjoyed hearing my crazy adventures and life stories. So, when I had a crazy dream, they told me I should write a book. I had some free time on my hands, so I figured, why not. I began writing. I wrote the first three books together. I was talking with my sister and she wanted to read what I wrote. I was embarrassed to share. When she was done, she said she sent it to a writer friend of hers. Next thing I know the books were being edited and I was convinced to publish them. I am happy I did and thank my family and extended family for all their support.
What are you working on next?
I am currently working on book four in the saga. I wanted to finish off Raina and Leon's stories and incorporate Keiko/Juji/Wyatt's talents. My kids have been asking for their developments and stories for some time, I wanted to see it through.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing I am spending my time being Mom. My family comes first. Helping with homework, outside reading, volunteering in our church, family activities. My life is very full and happy.
