Interview with Heidi Brown

Describe your desk
My desk is my couch, messy cluttered, with my little girl usually cuddled up with me.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in rural Idaho. I was the minority, so I had to deal with a lot of adversity and even some racism. My survival method was to bury my nose in books; I read and read until I realized I wanted to create stories that could resonate with readers as much as my own beloved authors.
When did you first start writing?
In third grade, my teacher had a free writing time in the morning and I would write my own version of fairy tales and stories.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I am working on two different books right now. The first is the sequel to "The Call of the Dire Wolf" the second is a collection of short stories surrounding U.S. Soldiers, their struggles and the struggles of their families.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
They have helped get my work out so that people can read my books, the reviews have been great even the bad ones have helped me grow as a writer
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating my own worlds and characters
Who are your favorite authors?
Some of my favorite authors are: Anne Rice, Ray Bradbury, Octavia Butler. George Martin and many others.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Taking care of my family and thinking about writing.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
through friends and social networking.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I wrote, that really made me feel like I could make a career out of writing is a short story entitled, " Marching Into Homelessness." My college professors started encouraging me to write more and seek publishing.
What is your writing process?
Imagine and dream, then write, write, and write. then refine it until if feels right.
