Interview with Gay N. Lewis

What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Blog Tours and emails.
Describe your desk
Messy. Disorganized. Cluttered. A calendar hangs nearby to help me keep organized. I have sticky notes everywhere. Behind my desk and computer, I have a large widow and can see a lovely, manicured yard. We have three huge trees. A pecan tree is over 100 years old. When I tire of seeing what's before me, I turn around and view tranquility.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Texas. I've always been a reader and writer. As a child I wrote plays and charged the neighborhood kids pennies to attend the musicals. All of my books are set in Texas. I'm a southern girl at heart, and it comes through with my writings.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Mattie's Choice is a heartwarming, historical book about a serious subject. In 1925, women were expected to obey their husbands and had little choice in careers. Two women married abusive brothers and found ways to deal with the situation. The book takes the reader through the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl and the fear of WWII. Abuse continues today and women endure it. I hope this book will show them they have choices.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating a story. I love the art of it.
What do your fans mean to you?
Oh my, fans are everything! I have one that buys a book, sends it to me with a return, stamped envelope. She wants my signature. How great is that?
