Interview with Heidi Echo

Published 2017-01-23.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on the West Coast, but I do prefer to keep my exact location secret. A little bit of mystery is nice right? Up and down the coast, you run into the quirkiest cities. It's great because you are constantly reminded that there is no such thing as normal. It's obviously very common to write from personal experience, but the people I have observed and talked to in my early life inspire me to see life from a perspective that isn't my own at all.
When did you first start writing?
As far back as I can remember.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I just thought it would be fun to write something that infused a somewhat cult sub-genre right now with the world of reality television.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
There is something to be said for a beautifully edited and well thought out story, but I feel like being an indie author gives readers a chance to read something raw with all its imperfections. It's like the difference between a studio album and a living room session. Both are great for different reasons. It's a generation of instant gratification and publishing indie gives the writer the chance to give readers a quick escape.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I am still pretty new to this, but it is certainly very easy to use which is nice.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Trying to see the world from a different perspective is a lot of fun. It may sound cliche, but it is always great to create a different world for a while.
What do your fans mean to you?
Hopefully that I can pay my bills a little easier! *laughs*
What are you working on next?
Probably something really bizarre again. I might do a few more borderline erotica tales, but they will more than likely be a little weirder and probably won't follow the TG Erotica boom. At least for now...
Who are your favorite authors?
Anna Sewell, Michael Reeves, Karina Halle
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Usually my phone going off with notifications honestly.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
A day at the beach is always nice. Catching up on Netflix series. I do enjoy working out as well, gotta keep the bikini bod for the beach days.
