Interview with Patrick Hoffmann

What are you working on next?
I am working on a short book centered on the Book of Psalms. It focuses on a handful of Psalms that I believe speak directly to Christians. It will focus on the messages from God looking thousands of years into the future to speak to Christians.
Who are your favorite authors?
I am heavily influenced by the writings of Alistair Begg and Frank Turek. I can't get enough of their writings. They have a way of hitting topics clearly and explaining topics in basic language. They both are consistent in their thoughts and works.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time working as the head of a supply chain for a multi national company. Outside of working or writing, I enjoy my 1993 triple white Fox Mustang convertible, golfing and spending time with my loving family. Every day, I spend 30 minutes in bible study - mostly reading the bible and taking notes.
What is your writing process?
It is messy. I usually start with some general topics and themes. From there - I brain dump ideas onto paper and then organize those ideas so they flow. I then write around the flow of ideas that I laid out. I use a bunch of paper and go through many pencils (I guess I am a bit old school).
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
As a kid, I remember reading the Narnia Chronicles. I thought they were wonderful and transported me to a magical world. Only later in life did I know there was a Christian edge to them. Now I can see that. Looking back, these books showed me that Christianity can be told through creative and interesting stories like the Chronicles of Narnia
How do you approach cover design?
The basis of the book and the foundation of it is the Big Bang and how it fits into my Christian faith. I sincerely believe that humanity's scientific discoveries centered around the beginning of the universe and the laws of the universe are fingerprints left behind by God to lead us to him. I felt it is appropriate to include a picture of the stars on the cover.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love historical fiction books. I am interested in history and any book that is based on events like the Civil War or the Crusades fascinate me. It is great to escape into a good book that brings the reader back to a different time when life was different that today.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My book FAITH - Facts And Intelligence Together Humble, is the story of my journey to belief in Jesus Christ. It is likely a different path than most Christians but I think it is one that is very relevant to today. We are pummeled by the ideas that logic and Christianity are polar opposites and that the belief in God is like believing in the tooth fairy. I came to Christ through the belief in a 14 billion year old universe, scientific facts and logic. There is little emotion in my journey with the exception of the humility I feel when confronted with God's revelations to humanity.
Describe your desk
My desk is clean and organized. I don't like clutter even though my writing process starts with a clutter of thoughts and ideas that I must then organize. My thoughts and ideas might start a bit disorganized but my work environment is very organized
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Today's world is amazing with technology allowing people to write and publish to the world (without leaving their home). I feel my message and my style are a mirror of myself. Writing and publishing e books is a window into my morals and my foundations in life. Being very personnel, I wanted to have control over the message and keep it personnel by being independent.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I hope that readers can use my background and faith journey to either come to Faith in Jesus Christ or strengthen their belief.
