Interview with Brownie King

Describe your desk
My desk is a rickety and nearly dilapidated mess but right now it's what I have. It's over-flowing with my laptop, speakers, iPod, Nook and an equally rickety lamp without a shade, lol!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in South Carolina. The way I grew up greatly influences my writing: whether it was my mom's undying love or my dad's absence of it, it shapes my thoughts and shows in my writing.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in high school, but it wasn't until very recently that I shared my writing with others.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is a collection of poems written while I was in the brink of happiness, sadness, love, hate, pain, joy and in a state of disrepair.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to give my words flight. I wanted any and everyone who felt as I did to know that they weren't alone in their feelings.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Hoping that my experiences and the way that I express them may touch someone, hug someone, or tell someone "I love you!" Helping people and lifting their spirits is a great joy and an awesome feeling. It does something to you! If I can make someone smile or bust a gut laughing, I've done what I set out to do.
What are you working on next?
A collection of books called The Black and White Cover Series: they express the struggles that people experience in life, in the streets (hood love) and in love (all love).
Who are your favorite authors?
Jo Ann Beard, Stephen King, Zane, Maya Angelou, Fern Michaels, Anne Tyler, TD Jakes...my list is sure to grow!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm a TV junkie. I must admit when I'm not writing I like to indulge in some television. I also like doing creative things like arts and crafts, painting, drawing or customizing shoes.
What is your writing process?
I wouldn't call it a process, but while I'm going about my day God sends me ideas and beautiful sayings that I can't wait to jot down and give life to!
