Interview with Cal Glover

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy is being able to share the knowledge and wisdom acquired over 50+ years of research and inquiry. I have always been passionate about learning as much as possible about the amazing world in which we live and finding answers to the really big questions that make life worth living.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't think of readers as "fans" but as fellow seekers of knowledge. As such each person who honors me by reading what I have written is a dear friend with whom I hope to share eternity.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne, C.S. Lewis, Alistair Maclean, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, James Herriot, Leon Uris, Jack Whyte, Jack London, Edgar Rice Burroughs and Louis L'Amour
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Every day is a fresh opportunity to learn more and make the world a better place, one person at a time!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love to read and travel whenever time and finances allow.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I remember it fondly. It was a collaboration with the other 6 members of my Creative Writing class in high school and I had the privilege of coming up with the subject material and writing the first installment. I chose to write about a mountain lion cub and his adventures in the wild. We had a great time with it and I still have a copy of the finished product as a valued keepsake.
What is your writing process?
Lots of research and jotting down notes as I go along which I flesh out later once I feel I am ready to do so.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the very first story, but one of my earliest memories is reading the story of Joseph in the Bible and being so impressed by the events and drama contained in his life. Another fond memory is getting a box full of my uncle's Hardy Boys collection for Christmas when I was in 2nd grade, which I proceeded to devour! I used to lay on the floor so I could continue reading by the light of my nitelight after my parents made me turn out the lights and "go to sleep".
How do you approach cover design?
This is not in my wheelhouse, so I seek the help of professionals.
What do you read for pleasure?
I really love non-fiction books that enable me to gain knowledge and insight into the world around us and how we got to where we are today.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in New England until I was 13, Florida for the next 20 years and then back to my roots in New England. I think New England gave me an appreciation for history and Florida provided me with my Christian values and world view.
What's the story behind your latest book?
As a Christian, I am very concerned about the direction in which mankind is going, ethically and morally. I attempt to address some of the key issues facing us in the modern world and hopefully show people that God is the answer to all of their questions and concerns.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
