Interview with JA Kruger

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When writing, I can be exactly who I need to be at that moment. I can lose myself and become the character or even the setting. But the greatest pleasure in writing is that I can be as insane as I want to be and call it art
What do your fans mean to you?
When you start knowing more about the people you are writing for, they become a part of the process. Sometimes, they can get so in-your-head that you can hear them asking questions or laughing at things that you are still trying to write down. It feels good to write and know you are writing for someone, but someone who wants to listen no matter what you say.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I search for ebooks based on what my curiosity is at that moment. Chasing books through keywords brings quite a few surprises.
What do you read for pleasure?
Graphic novels - DC Comics mostly and mostly Batman
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing, I focus a little on my day-job where I investigate fraud, do risk management consulting and perform some auditing as well.
What is your writing process?
I carry a notebook with me wherever I go. I write down ideas, quotes and notes on peoples' appearances and speech patterns etc. When I get home I start writing down things to support what I had heard or seen during the day. That - and I tend to dream about things to write next...
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. Good Omens - Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman
2. 1984 - George Orwell
3. Marabou Stork Nightmares - Irvine Welsh
4. Fight Club - Chuck Palahniuk
5. The Rum Diary - Hunter S. Thompson

The why part is, well, simply because these are great books.
