Interview with JC Winchester

What do you read for pleasure?
I tend to read more fantasy and military science fiction novels for fun. The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorites along with the Paladin of Shadows [Kildar] series by John RIngo.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Since I usually have it on me, I tend to prefer my android tablet for e-reading.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I'm just getting into this so wish me luck in figuring this out!
Describe your desk
Oh geeze, it's a mess. Usually littered with books, a very large monitor, and often enough a cat demanding attention.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in New Jersey where I was fortunate enough to take a number of extra English courses during high school. Several of the teachers there were very encouraging to try to think outside the box and encourage creativity even if writing a basic research paper.
When did you first start writing?
A middle school teacher of mine was very encouraging of writing in competitions and that was the spark for a while. Admittedly I did get out of writing as an adult but the itch kept bugging me in the back of my head so a little over the year ago I decided to dive back in and began writing again.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Two people meet while out on a hiking trip and get the chance to know each other in a familiar setting. I've always enjoyed hiking, and the setting is based on a favorite hangout my friends and I used to go to as teens.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Curiosity to see if my writing was actually any good or if I was overvaluing it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting feedback about how much someone enjoyed the story and that they'd like to see more.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean a lot honestly, without the fans encouraging me I'm not sure I would have gotten to the point of coming to Smashwords and trying to actually make it as an indie author.
What are you working on next?
You'll just have to wait and see.
Who are your favorite authors?
James Michener, John Ringo, Robert Jordan, and Brandon Sanderson.
