Interview with J. E Kay

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Not really, no. It may have been some fanfiction, but that's all I remember.
Describe your desk
VERY Messy... my laptop is at the center... then there's my makeup jars... some books and papers... and I do some art in my free time, so there's usually art supplies on my desk as well.
When did you first start writing?
When I was 8, but I didn't REALLY get interested in writing until I first heard of fanfiction when I was 10. I started to write lots of fanfiction as a result. The fanfictions weren't really good.
What's the story behind your latest project?
I'm currently on-and-off a few projects right now, but I like to describe the book I've worked on the longest as an angry letter to E. L. James.
Another is inspired by John Green books, and the last one is classified.
Who are your favorite authors?
John Green, S. E. Hinton, and earlier James Patterson (not his recent books- they're awful!)
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I also draw, browse the internet, and play viola in my spare time. Sometimes, if I'm stuck while writing, I do one of these things to try and get inspired again.
I'm also trying to learn Japanese, which is going OK for me.
How do you approach cover design?
I try and make the cover simple, but have it stand out. Aka had like two other cover designs before I went with the current one. The other two just felt two disorganized to work.

Prom tends to be the best night of everyone's lives- but one prom is the opposite. One person has quite the unusual fear, and another has a not-so-typical problem she has to cope with. All of these stories and more are features in this collection of stories and poems that make up PRIMARY COLORS- J. E. Kay's debut book.
