Interview with Jeff Coulter

What's the story behind your latest book?
As cops it’s sometimes difficult to maintain a positive outlook on life. You’re dealt every negative aspect that life has to offer, even on the inside of the Thin Blue Line. As Christians they’re even more scrutinized, not only on how they deal with others, but also how they deal with themselves. It’s exceptionally difficult to love others when everyone around you has nothing but contempt and hate for you, except for the few friends that you have on the inside of the Thin Blue Line. Daniel will reach a crossroad of faith and mental stability. He will have to make serious choices about his faith in Christ, his career and most of all his marriage. How we as Christians deal with the trials and tribulations of this life can best be told from a cop’s perspective. Cops have a code, a brotherhood that no other person can understand. They call it the Thin Blue Line for a reason. As Christians our stance in life is much the same. We can fold and not serve God, or we can take a stand and walk by faith. It’s also a code and a brotherhood. A brotherhood of God’s children. It can be equated as The Thin Blue Cross.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
This is a story written from two different perspectives: one of a husband and one of a wife. Our individual lives started from two diverse worlds and combined to become one life in 1987. We considered ourselves the typical, normal suburban family. As we grew in our marriage and focused on raising our children, we were determined to do so with God in first place and the kids in church. Unfortunately, the circumstances of life came into play a few years into our marriage and developed into a near cataclysmic end to two wonderful relationships: Our marriage to each other and our marriage to Christ.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I really enjoy seeing the finished product and sharing Jesus through our works.
What are you working on next?
My wife and I are working on a Christian Manifesto or Gospel Creed you could say, called The Christian Experience.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
My wife and I are are avid fishermen. We love being out on the water. In fact a lot of our inspiration and networking occurs at our local lake.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. Until Death Do You Part: A Story of Faith, Hope, and Love.
What is your writing process?
Typically we will write out an outline of our books and then write the story line from there. Generally I like to shoot from the hip and write as I go then proof the first draft with my editor in chief, Suzanne.
How do you approach cover design?
I generally start working on the cover after the story is finished. I generally try and connect the title and the cover art in a inspirational fashion. I do the covers myself and shoot the photos. We did have a photographer from church shoot the photo for
The Thin Blue Cross. The concept was mine but the photo was shot by her.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media is very important in our marketing plan. We also have produced a website and post all of our books there. You can read more about works at www.jnsbooks.com
When did you and Suzanne get married?
Suzanne and I married in 1987 after a short courtship and engagement. We met in May and married in September of that year.
